Ahh..... Waiter This is Not What I Ordered

Kids can be picky eaters. Sometimes they won't even the foods they will eat because there is something they like better prepared. Example. I was making BLTs and my nephew LOVES bacon...but hates everything else that comes with a BLT. So we told him he could have some bacon with a hotdog and chips. Well he eats hotdogs and chips. But he looked at me an said 'I don't want this hotdog on this plate. I don't want it.' He just wanted the bacon and chips. After explaining to him that bacon and chips were not enough, he stormed off and said he was full. So it was left sitting there till he was hungry...an he did come back for it....he didn't eat it all but he ate some of the hot dog, bacon and chips. He actually had done that with lunch that day as well. If their hungry enough they will come back and eat it. That doesn't mean load up a plate full of foods they hate and say well if their hungry they'll come back an eat it. The point is to teach them they don't get what they want when they want it. They get what we want because we know better and know what's good for them. My nephew who is 6 can't make good choices in food, if left up to him it would be candy and popcorn; oh and chips. Its up to us as adults to guide them and teach them what is better and moderation. To many parents are quick to give in and give their child what they want because their afraid they'll starve if they don't....leave the plate out. Try it.
